Nearly one in five Americans have donated online
According to a survey by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 26 million Americans, 18% of American Internet users, have donated to charity online. This is a rise from about 10% of users who had donated online in the period following the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.
The report was based on data from telephone interviews carried out between 14 September and 13 October 2005 with a sample of 2,251 adults.
As well as using the Internet to donate online, 24% of respondents said they used the Internet to find out where to donate, whether online or offline.
