Representatives from some of Wales’ 10,500 charities came to the Charity Commission’s first open board meeting in Wales today to find out about its plans and meet the Board.

The meeting, held at St David’s hotel in Cardiff, covered a range of issues affecting the charity sector, which is worth over £900 million a year in Wales. These included the results of a consultation into charities delivering public services, a new strategy for the Commission’s international programme and proposals for supplying public information about charities.

The Commission’s Chairman, Geraldine Peacock, CBE said: “Our office in Newport has been creating strong relationships with Welsh charities for the last 18 months and I’m pleased that our first open board meeting in Wales has given me the opportunity to meet so many of those working for Wales’ 10,500 charities.”
