Children in Need raises £17.2 million on the night
The 26th Children in Need fundraising telethon raised £17,235,256 by the end of the night at 2am on Saturday morning, the most it has raised in one night. The final total will of course probably double that figure over the coming months.
BT handled 269,498 calls from viewers across the country during the telethon, with 56 call centres in operation. BT also helped BBC Children in Need take online donations, and online donations totalling £1,242,343 were made on the night.
During the BBC One show, there was a live broadcast from the 34th floor of BT Tower where the largest of the telethon’s call centres was hosted.

At peak times, the BT network was handling 150 calls every second.
Principal Corporate Supporters of the appeal this year were ASDA, BT, Boots and HSBC.
BBC Children in Need claims that “every single penny of your donation goes to an organisation that helps children” because “all the charity’s overheads are paid for through the interest earned on the money raised”.
