Giving by young people continues to grow

Howard Lake | 18 November 2005 | News

Research by the British Market Research Bureau indicates that 11 to 19-year-olds are giving more to charity than five years ago. The rise is far from steep, from £4.28 million in 2000 to £4.8 million last year, but it is a rise.

Researchers at the bureau suggested to Third Sector magazine that this rise could be due to the number of celebrities associating themselves with charities.

For example, the research found that fans of U2 or Coldplay were 59% more likely to have donated to overseas aid charities than average young people. The work of Giving Nation might also have contributed to this trend.
