Alternative copyright movement launches first annual appeal
Creative Commons, the nonprofit that has established a “some rights reserved” alternative to the “all rights reserved” of traditional copyright, has launched its first annual Autumn fundraising campaign to build a supporter base.
Creative Commons offers a “flexible copyright for creative work” by artists and artists. It has grown in the wake of the growth of the Internet and the desire by many creative people to publish and share their information in a less restricted manner than traditional copyright law allows.
To date it has raised funds from foundations, but now it realises that it needs a wider base of individuals and corporates which are willing to fund it.

The nonprofit is therefore encouraging supporters to become a Commoner by joining or donating online, or to provide support by buying a branded t-shirt.
The appeal aims to raise $225,000 by 31 December 2005, and has today raised $30,422.13.
