Irish Dormant Accounts fund to reopen soon

The Dormant Accounts Fund established in 2002 by the Irish government will reopen for applications before the end of the year. The Fund draws its money from bank accounts that have been inactive for a number of years and since 2002 ‚€60 million has been distributed in grants.
It is thought that changes will be made to both the causes supported and the distribution mechanism but any policy changes have yet to be finalised.
Under the Dormant Accounts Board’s Disbursement Plan, a minimum of 52.5% of Dormant Accounts funding has been earmarked for RAPID, Drugs Task Force and CLÃR areas.

The Dormant Accounts Fund Disbursements Board was established on a statutory basis on 5th June 2002 and is under the aegis of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs.
The overall objective of the Board is to ensure that dormant accounts funds are disbursed in a manner that optimises their effectiveness and assists the personal, educational and social development of persons who are economically, educationally or socially disadvantaged or persons with a disability.
