Scottish phone film funding from NESTA

Profunding are once again sharing a news item from the latest issue of their SMALLfri bulletin, due out later today. The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) is offering funding for creating films for mobile phones.

They talk to you, they go off at the most annoying moments, they take pictures, there are even mobile phones that can deter mosquitoes (I kid you not). Well, through partnership funding between Scottish Screen, Scottish Enterprise and NESTA, the damn things will soon be playing full length movies. Just picture it, Night of the Evil Dead Zombie Flesh Eaters 7 being played next to you on the 07.30 commuter special. Oh joy!

The funding programme, entitled Pocket Shorts, is designed to encourage filmmakers to explore this new medium. Eight projects will be commissioned with a maximum budget of £3000 each. It is expected that half of the films commissioned will be live action and half animated.
