Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is hosting a one-day event in London in October to examine the challenges and opportunities of self-regulation in fundraising, following the £3 million grant from the Home Office to support this development.

CAF’s one-day seminar will discuss the shaper of the regulation framework and encourage discussion of the possible benefits and challenges.

Speakers will include Lindsey Boswell, Chief Executive of the Institute of Fundraising; Simon Hebditch, Executive Director, External Affairs at CAF; Stephen Lee, Director of the Centre for Voluntary Sector Management at Henley Management College; Mick MacAteer, Principal Policy Adviser at the Consumers’ Association; and Richard Weatherill, Head of Charities Unit at the Home Office Active Communities Directorate.

The event will cover powers that a new regulation body should have, the degree of buy-in needed and from whom, how the body will co-exist with the Charity Commission, the right measures to determine the body’s success, and whether self-regulation will make life easier or harder for fundraisers.

‘Making self-regulation a reality: challenges and opportunities” will be held at the Royal Society in London on 5 October 2005. There is no fee to attend the seminar.
