International conservation charity the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society (WDCS) has won a ‘highly commended’ award in the Viacom/Transport for London ‘Copywriting Goes Underground’ poster advertising competition, making it the top listed charity entrant.

The competition, for long copy poster advertisements of no fewer than 50 words, received over 150 entries, including 25 on behalf of charities.

The overall winner was ‘Exceed your Vision’ for Epson Photoprinters.

As well as the award WDCS has been offered free 48 sheet poster sites at several key London Underground stations.

Produced by direct marketing and fundarising agency Whitewater, which is also responsible for the charity’s long-running DRTV advertising, the poster uses emboldened text to show the life-size silhouette of a bottlenose dolphin leaping over copy that explains what amazing animals they are and what WDCS is doing to protect whales and dolphins worldwide. The poster’s call to action read “Join us – extend the flipper of friendship”.
