Traffic to Oxfam Unwrapped soars

Hitwise UK reports that Oxfam Unwrapped’s website was one of the fasting moving websites last month from among the wide range of sites that the company tracks.

Oxfam Unwrapped, the online gift site where users can “buy” school dinners, farm animals, educational equipment and even a camel, has jumped into the top 40 UK charity websites within a month, according to Hitwise UK. The jump shows that the PR surrounding its new services has been effective.

At the end of 16 April 2005, Oxfam Unwrapped was in 128th position in the Hitwise Community – Humanitarian category. One month later, by the week ending 14 May, it was in 32nd position, a remarkable jump of 96 places. Indeed, it did even better for a short time: the site peaked at number 23 in the Humanitarian sector on 12 May.

The site’s popularity has risen for two main reasons. First, it recently launched its spring/summer catalogue. Secondly, it has launched its wedding registry service, enabling couples to register a list of charitable gifts for their wedding guests on the Oxfam site.
