WWF's alternative gifts catalogue income rises by 15%

WWF has found that its alternative gifts ideas are proving popular with the public, with particular success reported or its retail adoption scheme.

WWF reports an increase in consumer demand for animal adoptions in recent months, whether for tigers, pandas, orang-utans or pods of dolphins. All are available through WWF’s retail adoption scheme, either for the purchaser or as an unusual gift for friends or relatives.

Launched in October 2002, the scheme has increased by 15% over the past year in terms of the number of adoptions purchased.

The adoptions, available as colourful gift box sets, include a certificate, wall chart, information on the adopted animal and a cuddly toy replica of the specific species adopted. Once the adoption is activated adopters also receive regular newsletters by post or email, keeping them up to date with the animal’s progress.

Four box sets are currently available, allowing customers to adopt a tiger, panda, orang-utan or pod of dolphins. Each gift set costs £29.99 and is available via high street outlets such as Argos and John Lewis, and WWF’s Earthly Goods catalogue and online shop.
