DEC to stop advertising tsunami earthquake appeal
Believing that its tsunami emergency appeal will raise £200 million, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), in an unprecedented move, is “ceasing to call for new money”, according to the BBC.
The DEC expects the £200 million total to be reached because there fundraising events and activities will continue to take place for some time. As it result, it feels, unlike any other emergency appeal in its 42-year history, that it no longer needs to appeal for more money.
So far the DEC has received 1.7 million telephone donations, 650,000 online donations, 106,000 text donations and 350,000 postal donations.

The announcement came at the end of this afternoon, although as of 8pm there is no mention of it on the DEC’s website, which is continuing to solicit and accept donations.
