Raleigh calls for 1.3 million hours of volunteering for its 21st birthday

To mark the start of the government-sponsored ‘Year of the Volunteer’ and the organisation’s 21st birthday in 2005, youth development charity Raleigh International has launched an appeal which could provide over 1.3 million hours of charitable work during the year.

Raleigh International is calling on the 25,000 people who have worked with the charity during its 21 years to commit one hour a week to voluntary work during 2005. If they take up the challenge, this will result in 1.3 million hours of work and support, which equals almost 35,000 weeks, the equivalent of an additional 667 workers in the charitable sector for 2005.
