Project Oscar extends monthly donation service to schools
Volunteer-run Project Oscar, which provides monthly donations to charities from its telecom service, is now offering the same service to UK schools and universities.
Project Oscar offers telecom services which can generate income for participating charities, schools and universities. Ten per cent of customers’ call spend will be donated directly to the school or organisation “without deduction of any kind”, says the provider. The same applies if the school or organisation persuades parents, staff or other businesses to sign up for the service.
The Isle of Man-based Project Oscar says that it offers “exactly the same rates as BT, exactly the same quality as BT, and the same Options 1, 2 and 3 as BT.”

Andrew Barrow, Project Oscar’s co-founder, said: “Using the Project Oscar telephone service is an ideal way for parents to raise extra funds for their children’s schools without any extra cost to their budget. The school will receive donations without restrictions of use.”
He added: “We expect the average monthly donation to be £1,000 per month. Some schools could gain considerably more.”
To participate schools need to apply to Project Oscar for an application form. Once accepted, the school sends the Project Oscar information to the parents and Project Oscar covers the costs of this. An additional £1 per new supporter is paid to the school. Of course, participating schools and charities are expected to carry out their own marketing of the scheme. Anyone wishing to use the Project Oscar or Oscar Connect must nominate a charity or school to benefit from the service which in most cases will be the organisation that promoted it to them.
Project Oscar Ltd is administered by City Trust Ltd and is staffed entirely by volunteers. There are no salaried staff “to keep down costs”.
