NICVA, the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action, plans to launch a voluntary and community sector portal which will include facilities to handle online donations and event books.

The new site, which will have the communityni.org address, is designed to function as a ‘yellow pages’ and shop window for the sector, supported by secure e-commerce technology”. It is scheduled to be launched in January 2005, although it will not be launched publicly until March or April 2005.

NICVA will allow any not-for-profit organisation to publish information on the site via facilities such as message boards and events listings, and by creating online donation campaigns. NICVA will also create Web sites for organisations that do not yet have one.
