Taking A Stand Awards to reward those tackling anti-social behaviour

Nominations from individuals and community groups for the 2004 Taking a Stand Awards close later this month.

The Taking A Stand Awards, in partnership with Crime Concern and the Co-op, will recognise individuals and local groups “who have shown commitment and bravery in tackling
problems in their communities such as vandalism, nuisance neighbours, graffiti, harassment, intimidation and rubbish dumping.”

There are up to 100 regional awards of £1,000 on offer, together with the top national award of £5,000. The awards are to be spent for the benefit of local communities across England and Wales.

Nominations must be submitted by 28 September 2004.

The Taking A Stand Awards are supported by The Home Office, BBC Local Radio, Crime Concern and the Co-op

Winners will also be offered a specialist programme to help build their skills and confidence in tackling other local problems and helping people in a similar situation.
