Free disability awareness training for London organisations

Howard Lake | 26 July 2004 | News

RNID is offering free disability awareness training for organisations in London that are keen to comply with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

RNID says that the free training on disability issues should help staff learn how to avoid prejudice against people with disabilities and thereby help organisations such as charities avoid the embarrasing risk of litigation.

Steven Franks, Employment Manager at RNID said: “Discrimination is often borne out of misconceptions and so educating staff on disabilities is essential to ensure that charities themselves do not fall foul of the DDA.

“These organisations could be facing costly court cases and the free training RNID offers is a start to getting an organisation’s staff to think for themselves how they could individually take simple steps to make their areas more welcoming to disabled people. This could make a huge difference to organisations with very little investment on their part.”

The offer of free training ends in November, although paid-for courses will still be available after that date.
