RHS appoints Whitewater for capital appeal launch

Gardening charity The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has appointed Whitewater to develop a direct mail pack and leaflet materials for its Bicentenary Appeal.

Whitewater’s brief is to develop concepts for three main elements of the overall campaign: a direct mail appeal pack for the UK and overseas, a follow up mailing and a ‘take one’ leaflet.

The overall campaign will include telemarketing, a direct mail appeal, take one leaflets, raffle, collection boxes and increased information at RHS Garden Wisley.

The Bicentenary Appeal will be targeted at two main audiences – RHS member donors and the remainder of the RHS membership of 343,000.

The appeal is to raise funds for a new glasshouse and education facility at
RHS Garden Wisley in Surrey which will cost £7.7 million. The RHS aims to raise £5
million through donations from its members, charitable trusts, major donors
and corporate supporters.

TV presenter and gardener Alan Titchmarsh is supporting the appeal and his message will appear on the appeal materials.

The appeal is offering incentives to boost donations. Donors giving £50 or more will receive a special edition 19th century print of a drawing of a Nerium Oleander from the Society’s Lindley Library. Donors
giving £200 or more will have their name engraved on a glass panel to be
displayed at RHS Garden Wisley.
