Julie Wilson, the campaign manager of legacy campaign Will Aid, has died.

Julie died on 2 May 2004 after a brief illness.

Penny Johnson, legacy manager at ActionAid and chair of Will Aid, expressed the shock and sorrow felt by everyone who knew Julie as a colleague and friend. “Everyone involved in Will Aid is saddened by Julie’s death. Julie was instrumental to the success of Will Aid, having managed it since 1999. Initially Julie took over the project management whilst she was Head of Special Projects at ActionAid and then in 2001 became full-time project manager.

“Since the bi-annual campaign was launched in 1988, it has raised over £4 million for the Will Aid charities and millions more in legacy income. The 2002 campaign was the most successful yet and raised half a million pounds.

“Looking to the future, we will build on Julie’s hard work to make this year’s campaign even better.”

Julie had ensured that plans for this year’s Will Aid were already well developed. Shirley Marsland is managing the rest of the campaign.

Will Aid is the bi-annual campaign run by nine of the UK’s best known charities: ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Help the Aged, NSPCC, Save the Children UK, Sight Savers International, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland). It aims to persuade everyone in the UK to draw up their will and at the same time help a number of charitable causes by leaving a legacy.

Since its launch in 1988 Will Aid has raised over £4 million in donations and much more in legacies.

Will Aid will run again in November 2004.
