Points of Light raises $10,000 a month from eBay storefront

US non-profit The Points of Light Foundation is generating around $10,000 each month by using eBay, not for online auctions but simply as a shopfront.

Jenn Thompson writes in OnPhilanthropy.com’s latest e-mail newsletter about the various ways in which US non-profits are using online auction tools. Some organisations, she says, have moved from simply auctioning celebrity memorabilia or event tickets to using some of the more direct trading functions of sites such as eBay.com.

“A storefront can serve as a thrift store and enable the organisation to monetise in-kind goods that aren’t useful in day-to-day operations”, she reports. She cites the example of the $10,000 generated each month by The Points of Light Foundation’ eBay storefront.
