Glastonbury crowds urged to donate to be carbon-neutral

Festival-goers at this week’s Glastonbury Festival will be encouraged to donate to Future Forests to plant a tree to offset the impact of the power requirements for the festival’s entertainments.

The Future Forests concept of planting ‘forests for the future’ to offset carbon emissions was first developed at the 1996 Glastonbury Festival. Visitors to Glastonbury have helped the charity to plant over 1,000 trees per year to offset the emissions created by the Festival.

Music and entertainment groups and events have been supporting the carbon neutral approach for some time. The Brit Awards for example will be carbon neutral in 2004 for the fourth year running. All Coldplay’s CD and DVD releases since ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ are carbon neutral. The Rolling Stones’ tour last year was also carbon neutral.
