Alnwick Garden launches gift scheme to fundraise for plants and trees

The Alnwick Garden has launched an appeal to fund 20,000 plants and trees by inviting individuals and companies to make not a straight cash donation but a ‘charity gift’ to friends and family to the value of the plant or tree selected.
Donors will be able to decide the value of the gift package they buy with prices ranging from £10 to £2000. The money raised from the gifts will help to pay for a wide range of plants including roses, clematis, hedges and trees.
The charity has so far funded 65,000 individual plants, but a remaining 20,000 plants and trees are needed to complete The Garden which will become one of the largest European plant collections in the UK.

The ‘charity gift’ idea aims to set the appeal apart from other straight requests for donations. Rachel Johnston, marketing manager for The Alnwick Garden said: “The 20,000 trees and plants that are needed to complete The Garden are an essential part of our plans to create a world class attraction for the people of the North East. The scheme will aim to help provide visitors as well as employees with a with a unique and everlasting present for friends and relatives.”
Early donors to the scheme include brother and sister Tony Curry and Judith Jude who donated £1000 to the Support The Alnwick Garden Scheme as a memorial to their parents, and Tim Steele, welcome host at The Alnwick Garden, the first employee to join the Support The Alnwick Garden scheme with a monthly donation.
