42,000 students volunteered in England in 2003

Howard Lake | 6 June 2004 | News

Student Volunteering England has published its first national survey of student volunteering in England.

The survey found that students who volunteered each gave on average around 82 hours per year in time, worth £42 million. The figures are based on organised volunteer programmes at higher education institutes.

However, the 42,000 students who volunteered last year represent just 2% of students in higher education. Student Volunteering England have set a target of 100,000 student volunteers by 2010.
