Contact a Family – for families with disabled children, and Lady Hoare Trust for Physically Disabled Children, are in formal discussions to merge.

In a joint statement, Mike Lancaster, Chair of Contact a Family and Lady Susanna Crawford, Chair of Lady Hoare Trust, said: “We welcome the prospect of a merger. By coming together, we believe that we can strengthen our capacity to deliver much-needed support to a greater number of parents and disabled children.

“Both our charities have long and well-respected track-records. By combining our resources and expertise, it is felt that a new organisation could extend direct services to many more families throughout the UK.”

The two organisations have been talking about how they might work more closely together for the past year. Trustees have now established a Joint Merger Committee, independently chaired by Tim Cook, former Clerk of the City Parochial Foundation.

Lady Hoare Trust for Physically Disabled Children was founded in 1962 and Contact a Family was founded in 1979.
