Abbey seeks charity applications for £100,000 in Bradford area
Personal financial service company Abbey has expanded its new Community Programme to cover Bradford and the surrounding areas.
In April, Abbey launched a pilot scheme in Sheffield that has now been extended to cover Bradford and the surrounding areas. Over the next two months, Abbey will be donating an additional £100,000 to charities in the Sheffield and Bradford areas whose applications fit with Abbey’s new charitable priorities.
Abbey is looking for applications for funding of £5,000 to £20,000, with the aim of making a positive impact on the local community. Charities have until 30 June 2004 to apply for funding. Decisions on applications received will be taken in July and the names of the successful applicants announced shortly afterwards.

Abbey’s new Charitable Trust aims to support disadvantaged people through:
- local regeneration projects which encourage cross community partnerships;
- education and training; and
- financial advice which helps them manage their money.
Alan Eagle, Charitable Trust manager at Abbey said: “These priorities fit very closely with our new goal of helping people get on top of their money. They also reflect the part we want to play in supporting regeneration in Bradford and the surrounding areas. We are hoping that many local charities will apply for funding.”
This donation programme is part of Abbey’s plan to promote its new Charitable Trust priorities, which have been changed to reflect the new direction of the bank.
The money given to support Sheffield and Bradford charities is part of a wider donation programme that will see Abbey supporting different areas of the UK over the course of the next few years.
