New South Yorkshire charities' consortium to promote local payroll giving

The Diocese of Sheffield has launched Charities Together – a consortium of four South Yorkshire charitable organisations that is encouraging local businesses to support them by setting up payroll giving
schemes that will enable their employees to make tax-effective charitable donations.
Charities Together is one of six start-up charity consortia to which The Giving Campaign is awarding a grant of £2,000, to help smaller charities work together to tap into payroll giving income via their local
employers.

Karen Hubbard, Fundraising Manager for the Diocese of Sheffield, said: “Employers sometimes find that dealing with a large number of charities is time consuming and can be confusing. Charities Together represents four charities working on projects ranging from neighbourhood regeneration to helping people who are going through divorce and separation. By dealing with Charities Together, employers only have to work with one organisation, rather than a representative from each charity, yet can still offer choice to their employees.”
The Giving Campaign is working to encourage smaller charities to work together, pooling their resources to gain the support of local businesses. The Campaign has published a free toolkit ‘Opening Doors for Charities’ with guidelines about setting up a charity consortium and tips for gaining the support of local businesses.
