Top ten place for St Ann's Hospice in Sunday Times List

Howard Lake | 8 March 2004 | News

St Ann’s Hospice has been named the 7th Best Company To Work For in Britain, according to a survey carried out by the Sunday Times.

This is the first year in the four year history of the awards that a registered charity or hospice has been listed as one of the Sunday Times Best Companies.

The listing recognises St Ann’s as a centre of excellence, committed not only to providing the highest standards of care to over 3,000 patients, families and carers each year, but also the staff who contribute to the running of the organisation as a whole.

In addition, St Ann’s was rewarded with first place in three categories – ‘Giving something back’, ‘Making the world a better place’ and ‘Most stimulating work’.

St Ann’s is an independent charity and one of the largest adult hospices in the UK. All its care is provided free of charge, meaning that it needs to raise £8 million to offer its wide range of services each year. Currently it receives around 32% of this from the government, leaving £5.4 million – that is almost £15,000 a day – that must be raised through voluntary contributions.

“The Sunday Times Best Companies To Work For” survey is the only survey in Britain that ranks companies on the basis of what their employees have to say.

The final 100 companies were evaluated on a series of criteria measuring the vision, leadership style, rewards and recognition, work-life balance, opportunities for professional and personal growth, as well as flexibility and the overall environment of each organisation. Over 58,000 employees from all over the UK were interviewed this year to find out which companies are truly the best.
