Charities face serious IT skills shortage, says recruitment consultancy
Recruitment consultancy The Principle Partnership has warned that charities’ increasing reliance on sophisticated fundraising technologies is leading to a shortage of qualified IT staff in the sector.
Kit Gatrell, consultant at the agency, explained how one large charity took four months to fill an IT post. Such empty posts cost the charity fundraising income, so the only alternative is to pay for expensive IT training for existing staff.
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) said that its own research had highlighted a broader skills shortage within the sector, particularly of those with experience in applying IT appropriately to the sector.
