The Association of Fundraising Consultants is launching a UK version of the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), the internationally recognised credential for senior professional fundraisers.

The CFRE is held by over 6,000 fundraisers in the USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Now, following work by the Association of Fundraising Consultants (AFC), it is being made available in a UK-specific version for UK fundraisers. For the first time, UK fundraisers will be able to sit an examination geared specifically to the UK experience of fundraising.

Candidates for the CFRE must demonstrate at least five years of fundraising experience. In addition there are specific requirements related to professional deveopment, service and fundraising performance.

The CFRE differs from the Institute of Fundraising’s Certificate in Fundraising Management. “If you have the experience, a proven track record in fundraising and can find the time to prepare for and site the four-hour examination, then you too could be certified,” says Richard Molineux, chair of the AFC.

The first CFRE exam administered in the UK will held on Monday 14 June 2004. The AFC is offering free introductory sessions before then to those interested in becoming a CFRE. These sessions take place between 10am and 4pm in central London on 3 February, 25 February and 4 March 2004. Contact Laureen Whateley on 01926 614555 for details.
