BusinessWeek publishes top US givers list

BusinessWeek magazine has published it special report ‘Philanthropy 2003’.
The special report is also the cover story this week. The report on the 50 most generous philanthropists is featured online, with a number of supporting articles. The list itself appears online as a graphic, so is not searchable. There is a summary of the people covered in the list, although don’t expect the profiles that other wealth lists often provide.
The report explains its methodology for calculating the top 50: it counted both gifts and pledges made over the last five years. There is coverage of eBay president Jeffrey Skoll who believes in ‘giving while living’, America’s most philanthropic companies, and the ‘secret givers’ – those who “try to share their wealth while shunning the spotlight.”
