Plasterboard company helps Glasgow fair trade shop expand

Lafarge Plasterboard has helped make it possible for Scotland’s independent fair trade retail outlet, One World Shop, to open a second branch in Glasgow.

The new Glasgow premises were in need of refurbishment and a low budget drove the organisation to look for help from outside agencies. In response Lafarge donated a pallet of 12.5mm Firecheck wallboard with accompanying profiles to help with ceiling and wall refurbishment.

The Firecheck board was used to create a suspended ceiling and enabled the designers to comply with Building Regulations since the property above is residential and extra fire precautions therefore had to be taken.

Sam Booth, of LWD, who designed the interior, said: “We wanted to move away from a charity shop look and provide a professional environment that would do justice to the high-quality products. Lafarge enabled us to do this on a low budget not only by providing the board but by helping us save time and money on labour by virtue of the installation advantages of dry wall systems.”

One World Shop has been promoting fair trade in Scotland from its shop in Edinburgh and now its shop in Glasgow for over 20 years.
