New insurance policy for cycling events

CTC, the national cyclists’ organisation, has this week launched a new insurance policy aimed at all those organising a cycling event or ride.

The new insurance policy was developed against the backdrop of 670,000 personal injury claims made in the UK last year.

Greg Woodford, CTC Cycle Training Officer, commented: “As the country’s largest insurer of cyclists, CTC has been flooded with requests for specialist insurance from those planning cycling activities.

“Although the risk of being sued is low, concern about the growth of a compensation culture in the UK has led CTC to arrange insurance products that will cover everyone from a school teacher to a large organisation holding a charity ride.”

In addition, CTC has launched an online advice service that explains the liability issues that surround cycling, and lists the various insurance products on offer.
