CharityChannel.com introduces fees

Howard Lake | 8 October 2003 | News

After eleven years of providing online discussion forums for non-profit staff at no charge, US service CharityChannel.com is introducing fees to cover its costs.

Founder Steve Nill has told subscribers to CharityChannel.com’s services that “the number of subscribers and the services we now provide have grown to such an extent that it is no longer possible to serve you without charging a modest fee.” The service now offers nearly 200 public and private discussion lists, e-mail newsletters, and has also started hosting physical conferences.

The fees are indeed modest. Individuals are asked to pay $18 for 6 months or
$24 for 1 year. Organisations will pay $60 for a year’s access for 3-5 users, $96 a year for 6-12 users, or $180 a year for 13 or more users. “Think of us as one order at Starbucks coffee once each month” says Nill, although he adds that “this is a genuine fee, not a donation. It is due from those who continue to remain aboard.”
