Research into charitable giving of British Muslims
The centre for the Study of Islam at the University of Glasgow is to study the philanthropic activities of 12,000 UK Muslims.
With a £64,000 grant from the Ford Foundation, Dr Mona Siddiqui and two researchers will look at Islamic concepts of charitable giving, including ‘zakat’ or alms-giving. Research will include interviews and qustionnaires over the next 12 months.
The “Philanthropy for Social Justice in the British Muslim Societies” research is part of a larger comparative project including Indonesia, Egypt and Turkey.
