A glass panel sale has raised £45,000 for the Macmillan Windmill Unit.

Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Blackpool Gazette have joined forces in an unusual fundraising initiative to generate funds for the Macmillan Windmill Unit at the Blackpool Victoria Hospital. They have invited the people of Blackpool to purchase sections of stained glass panels, containing etched personal messages of hope and encouragement, to raise funds for the Windmill unit, a new cancer outpatient unit opened by the Duke of Westminster this summer.

105 glass panel messages were bought by individual people and fifteen by local businesses containing words of hope, encouragement and visions of life. These stained glass panels have raised £45,000 for the Macmillan Windmill Unit, and now adorn the walls of the unit at the Blackpool Victoria hospital which has taken three and a half years to complete.

The glass panels were personalised to fit all pockets and tastes, the prices ranged from an individual engraved panel at a modest £65 to the largest contribution which was £5000. The messages were also diverse, with three requests for the song title ‘You’ll never walk alone’, two for ‘Let’s face the music and dance’ and many messages of ‘love’ and ‘hope’.
