Macmillan secures radio coverage for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning

Macmillan Cancer Relief has enlisted the forces of GWR, the umbrella company for Classic FM and The Mix network of 31 local radio stations, in a deal that will maximise radio coverage and raises awareness of their largest annual fundraising event, the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

On Friday 26 September Macmillan will be hoping to beat last year’s Guinness World Record for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning when more than 1.5 million people organised 26,000 coffee mornings across the UK raising £3.2 million for people living with cancer.

The charity is expecting the extensive radio coverage to encourage listeners to join a public coffee morning or hold their own. Radio activity started on 1 September 2003 with trails voiced by Simon Bates running throughout the day as well as online activity on Classic FM’s Web site. Classic FM listeners will be able to log on to classicfm.com to register for a World’s Biggest Coffee Morning ‘host pack’ containing useful materials for holding a coffee morning and the chance to win Classic FM Live! tickets.

The deal was brokered by Opus, the sales arm of GWR, and Ideas Unlimited who also arranged for Macmillan to be interviewed on the Classic ‘Newsnight’ programme.

Jenny Edwards, Head of Events at Macmillan Cancer Relief says: “The partnership with Classic FM and The Mix network of 31 local radio stations will give us the opportunity to reach a potential audience of ten million people on both a national and local level.”

Classic FM is hosting its own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 26 September at its base at Classic FM House in London.
