New book on fundraising from European donors, companies and trusts

Chris Carnie, European fundraising research expert, will publish on book on fundraising from Europe next month.

‘Fundraising from Europe: Individuals; Companies, Foundations’ will be published in July 2003 by Chapel & York.

The book looks beyond obtaining funds from the European Union, which is many organisations’ prime focus in terms of European fundraising. Instead it looks at fundraising from the 370+ million individuals, and the thousands of companies and trusts and foundations that exist in Europe.

The European fundraising market turns over £200 billion each year, according to Carnie. It includes some of the world’s largest foundations, headquarters of many of the world’s leading businesses and one-third of the wealth held by the world’s high net worth individuals. Most of these sources now operate in English, Carnie points out, as well as their own languages.

The author, founder of European prospect research specialists The Factary, explains how successfully to access these funds: he uses case studies and provides facts and figures from the extensive and valuable European scene.

This practical handbook is aimed at people working in charities, their advisors, volunteers and leadership. It includes key addresses and Web sites, together with details of fiscal and legal regimes in Europe. It covers each of the key fundraising markets in detail (foundations, people, companies and the EU) and deals with topics such as taxation, money transfers and direct marketing. The book includes an English-German-French-Spanish dictionary of fundraising terminology.
