Stamp prices to rise by 1p
Postal prices are to rise by 1p on Thursday 8 May 2003, so now’s the time to save money by buying in bulk.
The new rate for an ordinary First Class letter will be 28p while the cost for Second Class will rise to 20p. This is the first rise in basic postal prices in three years.
Other postal price rises will affect Special Delivery, parcels, and items over 60g.

Business mail services that will also experience a price rise include:
- Mailsort and Walksort
- franking Mailsort and Pressteam items as postage paid
- Packetpost, Packetsort 12 and Flatsort 12 and Packetpost Returns items
- collections services on Saturday and Sunday along with collections before 3pm
- annual Response Services
- FREEPOST NAME license fees
- Timed Delivery fees
Services not affected by the price rises include:
- Surface Mail SmallPackets and Printed Papers
- services to any destinations outside Europe
- Airsure, Swiftair and International Signed For services
- Airsure packs, Swiftair packs and Airmail packs
- Presstream First and Second class
- Door to Door rates
