UK Forces Gulf Fund launched

Howard Lake | 31 March 2003 | News

An official charity for Forces in the Gulf, recognised by the Ministry of Defence, has been set up to provide additional welfare support to UK service personnel taking part in Operation Telic in the Gulf and their families.

The UK Forces Gulf Fund will provide relief for example to people who have lost a loved one in the fighting and require short-term financial help, or those who suffer a disability and would benefit from special equipment.

The Fund is already accepting donations and is encouraging online donations in particular. The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is managing all contributions to the fund both on and offline.

Similar funds were set up during the 1991 Gulf War and the Falklands War. They raised £3 million and £17 million respectively.
