Community Fund publishes its Annual Report for 2001-02

The national lottery distributor reports that it made grants of over £351 million to 7,557 groups.

This brings their total distribution from launch in 1995 to March 2002 to £2,272,199,655 to 48,977 projects.

Diana Brittan, the Chair of the Fund, said: “The Community Fund’s Annual Report for 2001-02 shows just how much Lottery money is making a difference to the lives of people throughout the UK.”

Given the current campaign against the Fund by the Daily Mail, it is appropriate that the Fund’s report includes a section on how it is governed. “We wanted to ensure that the public understands who makes the decisions as to where our money should go and how they are selected,” said Ms Brittan. She added: “We have also asked two journalists to comment on our work including the BBC journalist and political commentator Peter Kellner. We wanted to be totally open and transparent about what we do and how we do it.”
