Council leader convicted of charity fraud
Garvin Reed, the former deputy leader of Rotherham metropolitan borough council, faces sentencing today after defrauding the National Local Government Forum Against Poverty of more than £172,000.
He spent the charity’s money on entertainment including hotels, football matches, race meetings, meals, and prostitutes. He was the national convenor of the forum, and passed off the payments as “travelling expenses” and “member support”, according to The Guardian.
