Windfall in Gone with the Wind

Howard Lake | 28 August 2002 | News

Do your charity shop volunteers and staff flick through the pages of donated books?

They might start to, following the lucky windfall enjoyed by the Arthritis Research Campaign shop in Bolsover, Derbyshire. A volunteer picked up a copy of Gone With The Wind which had been sitting on the shelves for six weeks, and out fell £500 in new notes.

If the book had been bought before the discovery, it would have sold for just £1.50.
