New Zealand charities to launch Make A Will Week

The New Zealand initiative was inspired by the UK’s Make a Will Week.

New Zealand charities are collaborating with the New Zealand Law Society in a Make A Will Week, which will start on 19 August 2002.

The initiative encourages people to write a will and consider including a charitable bequest. It was inspired by the UK Make A Will Week with a charity theme that ran in the UK in 1999.

Great Fundraising Organizations book - available now

Sebastian Wilberforce proposed the initiative in New Zealand two years ago. He was formerly a charities representative on the UK committee that liaised with the Law Society in 1998/99.

Wilberforce, now director of Wellington-based Fundraising Consultancy Services, said: “We hope for great things from it, and my wish is that it should evolve into a campaign akin to the Legacy Promotion Campaign in Britain to run here in a year or two.”
