Three hundred more e-mails were sent than letters during January 2002.

E-mail is now more popular than the post, according to a NetValue survey. During January 2002, 550 million e-mails were sent compared to 258 million letters handled by the Royal Mail.

People who use computers at home sent on average 12 messages and received 39 each month.
