Internet registrar VeriSign Inc is due to hand over management of the .org domain name registry in December 2002.
Internet registrar VeriSign Inc is due to hand over management of the .org domain name registry in December 2002. What happens after that has just moved forward one step. Non-profit Internet technical co-ordinating body the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has now received a policy recommendation on how to proceed.
Ryan Turner of OMB Watch comments: “the recommended policy promotes the idea of an unrestricted .org domain – open to both organisation and individual non-commercial activity – managed by a nonprofit entity widely regarded and supported.”

The policy statement is open for public comment until the end of January.
