The Daily Mirror today reports that “a mystery American firm” has “hijacked the Internet addresses” of three UK universities to send pornographic material. The universities targeted are reportedly Warwick, Southampton and Swansea. The activity would appear to be a case of “spoofing” in which e-mail addresses, and in some cases Web addresses of legitimate users are used without permission in order to avoid security blocks on sexually explicit material.
