GuardianSociety notes that Eton College is now ranked in the top 100 charities with a 1999 income of 28.2m. Although an exempt rather than registered charity, Eton’s ranking in the Charity Finance magazine survey raises the issue of how to frame a modern definition of a charity in terms of public benefit.
