Scrip is a major fundraising tool for schools and non-profits in the US. There seems to be no UK equivalent. Scrip are vouchers for products and services which are bought by non-profits at a small discount and then sold on at face value. The non-profit group retains the difference.

Now a Californian company is transferring scrip to the Internet. Electronic Scrip Inc has already signed up over 120 school districts and participating merchants. Once non-profit supporters have registered their details at the eScrip site and start to spend with the participating merchants, a percentage of their transactions’ value is paid to their chosen non-profit. One drawback to the system is that prospective donors have to pay a $10 annual fee to Electronic Scrip Inc. to use and benefit from the system.
