BT Swimathon goes to great lengths

Howard Lake | 22 November 1998 | News

The 1999 BT Swimathon is aiming to raise £2 million for the NSPCC and Children 1st in Scotland. Now in it’s 13th year, the event runs from 15th-21st March 1999 and potential participants can register/donate on-line. Significantly, the Web site will help participants stay in touch with the success of the event by publishing the results. The Results page will shortly offer a “fully-searcheable listing of last year’s participants” so participants can find out how they did in the 1998 event. When the results are in for the 1999 event, sponsors will also be able to “check whether your friend at work really did quite as well as they say they did….”

The site, like the Royal British Legion’s Two Minute Silence presentation, is another example of charity sites using Macromedia’s Flash to generate more active content.
The site makes good use of celebrity endorsement, with a welcome from Duncan Goodhew MBE.
