Atlantic provides over $11 million in Ireland

Atlantic Philanthropies has released details of its latest round of grants to Irish organisations which totalled over $11.5 million (£7.5 million) so far in 2013.
The biggest grant, $3.5 million, was given to the Northern Ireland Hospice, one of the largest grants ever provided to an organisation in Northern Ireland. The Hospice, which is involved in a major capital fundraising campaign, was given a grant ‘to enable people with dementia to experience the end stages of life with dignity and free from pain by providing best-practice dementia palliative care in hospices and the community’.
The Irish Hospice Foundation in the Republic of Ireland was also well supported with a grant of $1.9 million.

Philanthropy Ireland, which was set up to promote philanthropy in the Republic of Ireland, was given $970,000 for the National Giving Campaign. With the exception of the Northern Ireland Hospice, nearly all the grantees in this round have received funding from Atlantic Philanthropies before.
The National Children’s Bureau, which received over $1 million in this round, had previously received nearly $2 million in grants.
The Association of Charitable Trusts in Northern Ireland received $23,000 from Atlantic Philanthropies "to strengthen the involvement of UK Trusts and Foundations in Northern Ireland by developing issue based networks and events between funders, NGOs, thought leaders and those connected to influencing policy and practice".
Atlantic Philanthropies describes itself as a "limited life foundation". It plans to complete active grantmaking by 2016 and close its doors by 2020.
